The Helambu region begins at the Lauribina La (pass) and descends to the Melamchi valley. It is a region of highland villages in Nepal. It extends from north of Taramarang to the tree limit of the Gosainkunda Lake and lower slopes of Jugal Himal. The normal trailhead starts off at Sundarijal and goes past Chisopani,Hyolmo, Kutumsang, Magin Goth, Tharepati, Malemchigaun, Nakote and Hyolmo, Tarke Gyang. After which you have the option of 2 roads one is the footpath via Sermathang or the bus route via Kiul Takpa Kharka. Helambu Trekking is a good trek for people who don’t have much time in Nepal. Despite being close to Kathmandu, the Helambu region is relatively un-spoilt and can fell fresh air. Colorful rhododendron, bamboo forests, majestic waterfalls, and snow-capped Himalayas make the trekking one of most diverse treks.
The great Himalayan scenery at the border with Tibet and monasteries make a Helambu Trekking an enthralling experience. The people living the highlands of this region are certainly the Nepalis. While doing Helambu trekking we meet several highland Tamang and Sherpa villages, scattered on both sides of the Malemchi Khola. Autumn (mid Sept to mid Dec) and Spring(March to May) are the best seasons for Helambu Trekking. The weather is sunny and warm, with outstanding views but the nights are cold. Winter (Dec, Jan, Feb) is also good for Helambu Trek, only colder (obviously).
