Kanchenjungha Trekking Detail Itinerary

Day: 01 Arriving into Kathmandu
Namaste and welcome to Nepal, You'll be met and assisted at the airport by our local representatives who will arrange your transfer and check in to your hotel.

Day: 02 Kathmandu and Valley

In the morning we explore Kathmandu on an organized sightseeing tour visiting Bodhnath Stupa & Swoyam,bhu Nath Stupa. Here we may observe Buddhist monks in prayer in the monasteries surrounding the Stupa. where we can visit the surrounding monasteries and perhaps watch the monks as they chant their daily mantras. In addition, we visit Pashupatinath, the most famous Hindu temple in the country, located on the banks of the holy Bagmati River. Here we will see Hindu holymen (or Sadhus), pilgrims bathing and, occasionally, funeral pyres burning on the ghats. In the evening, you will be supplied with your trek packs and final departure details for tomorrow.

Day 03 : Kathmandu to Hille (1850m)
This morning we'll take a 45 minute flight to Biratnagar, an Indus trail ity in the lowlands of eastern Nepal, from here we'll drive to Hille, a Tibetan settlement at around 1800m and the area where we pitch our first camp tonight.

Day:04Hille to Shudua (2020m)
Today we start our trek following along a ridge to Buranse Danda towards the Tamur River. At the top of this ridge we'll arrive at Shidua where we camp for the night.

Day5: Shidua to Door Pani (2890)
After breakfast today we'll trek through a forest area to Chitre, observing the local wildlife along the route. The views of Mt. Makalu and Chamlang area the main highlights along the trail, we continue through rhododendron forests to the hamlet of door Pani for our overnight camp.

Day 6 : Door Pani – Gupa Pokhari
After a gentle climb through more rhododendron forests to a mountain ridge, we drop down to the village of Tongise Phedi and continue to Chanki, an area used for summer pasture. We continue through grassy fields with Mt. Makalu in constant view. Soon the Kanchenjunga range appears and we come to Mongol Bharai pass, lined with mani stones. We descend to a lake, Gupa Pokhari, for our camp.

Day 7 : Gupa Pokhari – Nesum
Today we cross a pass at 9,922 ft. and descend through a dense forest towards Gurja Gaon and continue to descend to Nesum (5,297 ft.) with Mt. Jannu and Mt. Kanchenjunga behind us. We camp in Nesum.

Day 8 : Nesum – Taplejung
Today we visit the central hub of this region, Taplejung. We descend to Doban through paddy fields and start the trek up the Tamur River, to Taplejung.

Day 9 : Taplejung – Chirwa
Continuing up the Timur River in a valley populated by the Limbu peoples, the descendants of the Kirati warriors who ruled Nepal at the dawn of Nepalese history, we camp near Chirwa, a pleasant bazaar with a few tea houses and shops.
Day 10 : Chirwa – Sakathum
We continue up the Tamur past Tapethok and cross the Simbuwa Khola, a river formed by the Yalung Glacier. We climb over another ridge to join the Ghunsa Khola valley and camp by the banks of the river at Sakathum.

Day 11 : Sakathum – Amjilassa
We follow a steep and narrow trail up-river. From the high spots there are wonderful views of the Ghunsa Khola below. The path descends steeply and we arrive at the mountain-side village of Amjilassa for our overnight stay.

Day 12 : Amjilassa – Kyapar
We shall be doing some real climbing during the next 5 days! We climb to Kyapar perched in the middle of terraced hills about 1000 ft up, steep climbs from the Ghunsa Khola.

Day 13 : Kyapar – Ghunsa
We descend from Kyapar and make an easy climb up the right bank of the Ghunsa Khola. After the village of Phere, we enter rhododendron forests and climb a gentle hill before descending back down to the Ghunsa Khola and crossing a wooden bridge to the village of Ghunsa.

Day 14 : Khambachan
Today we glimpse the Jannu Glacier. Later on we get a view of Mt. Jannu (25,289 ft). We descend the mountain-side to our camp at Khambachan.

Day 15 : Khambachan
We have to climb over 8,000 ft. in the last 4 days. We deserve a rest today to collect our thoughts on how wild and wonderful everything has been so far.

Day 16 : Khambachan – Lhonak
Well rested, we shall now start a stint of real climbing. We trek to the edge of Kanchenjunga Glacier and cross over to the Lhonak Glacier. We arrive at our campsite at Lhonak, from where we can see Mera Peak (20,208 ft.)

Day 17 : Day Trip To Pangpema
We shall have excellent views of the towering peak of Kanchenjunga today.

Day 18 : Khambachan– Tha Passea
We select to cross either of the 2 passes today depending on the weather conditions: Lapsang La, the higher pass at 17,000 ft., and Mirgin La the lower pass at 15,000ft.

Day 19 : High Camp
We shall again rest today to recover from the efforts of the previous days.

Day 20 : High Camp - Ramche
We descend to the Simbuwa Khola valley and camp at Ramche.

Day 21 : Ramche – Tserma
We take a day trip to the Yalung glacier for a magnificent view of the Kanchenjunga south face from a chorten at about 15,000 ft. We descend later to Tseram for the night.

Day 22 : Tserma – Torantan
We are starting to descend from today. We steadily descend through forests of rhododendron to Torontan at 9,800 ft.

Day 23 : Torantan – Yamphudin
We descend today to Yamphudin (5,360 ft. ) Yamphudin is a mixed community of Sherpas, Limbus, Rais and Gurungs and is the first real village since Ghunsa.

Day 24 : Yamphudin – Ponphe
We descend from Yamphudin to the Kabel Khola and climb to Ponphe (5,500 ft. ) for our camp.

Day 25 : Ponphe – Pha Khola
From Ponphe we climb to a ridge at 5,700 ft. We descend through as series of side valleys past Phun village to Kesawa (6,120 ft.). The trail continues to ascend to a Gurung settlement at Bhanjyang (6,640ft.) From here the trail traverses a ridge and descends to the Limbu village of Khunjari (5,250 ft. ). We camp below on the banks of Pha Khola.

Day 26 : Pha Khola – Taplejung
We descend today to the airport of Taplejung for our overnight stay.

Day 27 : Taplejung – Kathmandu
We fly this morning back to Kathmandu via Biratnagar after a well-remembered trek

Day 28 : Kathmandu
Free day in Kathmandu.

 

Days 01 : Arrive at Tribhuwan international airport, Kathmandu, you are welcomed by the hospitable meeting and then you will be transferred to your hotel. Short briefing will be followed about necessary formalities and rest of the program. Depending on arrival time you will have choice of visiting nearby sanctuaries or have a rest day.

Days 02 : After breakfast we drive to Swoyambhunatha stupa has it that Manjushree, found of Kathmandu valley, and discovered the lotus of ancient valley lake on which site the great stupa of swoyambhunath was later built. The omni sighted stare of Buddha greets visitors & residents a like compassion. This is one of the oldest Buddhist stupa in the world, which has been registered in UNICEOO heritage side. We then visit to Kathmandu Durbar Square. Kathmandu durbar square situated the center of Kathmandu where you can see the House of Living Goddess”KUMARI” Kasthamandup temple” Said that was built from single tree in 16th century, big bell-big drams, erotic carving in old temple, old palace etc. We then finally were sightseeing to Patan Durbar Square. Patan Durbar square is one of the beautiful Durbars square in Kathmandu valley. It is very famous for woodcarving, Metal works, Temples and Monasteries. Tour of Patan includes tour of Krishna temple, Patan king’s palace, Golden temple and much more.

Days 03 : We will have direct flight to Taplejung and met our trekking crew at Suketar (2300m.) then commence trek to Lalikharka. Sherpas, Limbus, Rais, Gurungs, Brahmins and Chhetriyas inhabit this area.

Days 04 : After breakfast we start walking down through a number of villages and fields for 4-hrs until we reach Pawa Khola where we will have our lunch. After lunch we proceed to Sinechowk Bhanjyang. It takes 4-hrs to reach there from the river where we will set our overnight camp. If the weather permits Kanchenjunga can be viewed.

Days 05 : About 90 minutes walk after breakfast will see us down at Khesewa Khola (1700m). From here it takes one and half-hour to Fun-Fun. Later we reach Anpan (1690m) where we have lunch. After we proceed to Ponpe Danda, placed at the crest of a ridge, for the overnight camp.

Days 06 : We walk down to the Khesewa khola and climb a bit before reaching Mamankhe, a large Limbu settlement (1790m). Most of the people of this village have joined the British and Indians armies as Gurkhas. Ponpe Danda to Mamankhe is 2-hrs walk. Here we begin an easy climb to Dekadin village. We follow the winding path to rise about 300m and then descend to cross Kabeli Khola, climb a ridge route past villages and fields to finally arrive at Yamphundin (2150m), the most remote hamlet in the area housing a post office and school.

Days 07 : A walk of 4-hrs along a steep ridge reaches us to Dhupi Bhanjyang (2320m). From here we walk through a dense forest to reach Omje Khola (2250m) for the overnight camp.

Days 08 : The morning sees us walking a stiff incline through thick forest where we can see a variety of vegetation and wildlife. We will reach Lamite Bhanjyang (3430m) after 5-hrs. A further 3-hrs will take us down to Torantan (3080m) for the overnight camp.

Days 09 : We continue climbing upstream along the Simbu Khola through thick rhododendron and pine forests. After lunch we across a stream and travel along the path through thick forest climbing all the time. After the forested area, we enter the riverbed path and climb to reach Tseram (3860). Tserram has a number of bivouac caves. From here we can see the terminal moraine of the Yalung glacier and the two peaks of Kabru (7353m) and Talung peak (7349m).

Days 10 : We temporarily descend to Simbu Khola to climb back to the terraced hills to arrive at Yalung Bara, the beginning of the snow line. We climb steadily, keeping to the side of Yalung glacier, to pass Lapsang with its small lakes. We follow the level path leading to Ramze (4560m), where we will set our overnight camp.

Days 11 : With a possible excursion into the Yalung glacier to go to the ‘heart’ of the Kanchenjunga range. As we turn the bend of the glacier, Kanchenjunga appears.

Days 12 : After breakfast we proceed down to Yalung, This will give us a good head start for tomorrow's crossing of the Mirgin-La and Selele.

Days 13 : A steep incline leads us to a basin. We continue to climb and encounter a steep ridge then climb up to the pass. Upon crossing the pass we descend to a rocky valley with a small glacier. We continue walk through a small ridge to finally arrive Selele.

Days 14 : Descending along a ridge to finally arrive at Ghunsa (3475m).

Days 15 : Excursion day in Ghunsa

Days 16 : The trail descends towards the river be entering a forested area Jannu glacier lays ahead. Then, climbs a steep hill to a rocky area where it traverse along the mountain side and finally gets a view of the Jannu also called "The Mystery Peak" or "The Terror" it descends again to Khambachen for overnight camp.

Days 17 : The trek goes a head to the edge of Kanchanjunga Glacier and crosses the lateral moraine, then comes to the junction of Lhonak Glacier and cuts across at this the view of Mera peak comes into sight from here.

Days 18 : The fine views of the towering peaks of the tent peak, Nepal peak, cross peak and the Mt. Kanchanjunga are the rewarding sight of the trail.

Days 19 : Excursion day in Kanchenjunga Base camp

Days 20 : Trek back to Khambachen.

Days 21 : Trek down to Ghunsa.

Days 22 : We cross the Ghunsa Khola Bridge and ascend a gentle hill. Soon we will descend through thick rhododendron forest to arrive at Phole. We continue amid cultivated a field that leads to a broad meadow. Soon we will descend a short hill and follow the descending path along the Ghunsa River. At the last stretch we will ascend for Kyapra (2770m) then descend to Thyangem for the overnight camp.

Days 23 : The trail follows many ups and downs to finally catch a gently downward slopping path to Amjilassa. Amjilassa is a small village set among terraced fields. From here to Ghaiya Bari the going gets tough initially we begin ascending after crossing two streams to be followed by a couple of ups and downs. This is immediately followed by a very difficult descend with rocky outcroppings. This sharp drop should be tackled carefully then continue walk to Sekathum for the overnight camp.

Days 24 : The trail follows the grassy banks. We cross a suspension bridge and climb up to the village of Helok then we descend down to the Simbuwa khola, cross the bamboo bridge and climb up a winding path to reach Tamewa. We descend along the riverbed and down the valley to cross a suspension bridge to finally arrive at Chirwa.

Days 25 : Ascend and traverse a rocky area to arrive at Tewa. After we continue ascending to reach the Phurumbuk.

Days 26 : This day trek begins with a steep ups to reach to Suketar..

Days 27 : We fly to Biratnagar and then on to Kathmandu.

Days 28 :  After breakfast drive to Pashupatinath. The holiest of holy Hindu temple in south Asia is the focal point of pilgrimage from all over the sub-continent. The holy river Bagmati flowing nearby is the cremation ground of the Hindus. Funeral pyres can be viewed from across the riverbank. We then visit to Boudhanath stupa. Probably the largest stupa in the world is also found in Kathmandu valley the great stupa of Boudhanath. Again the omni-sighted eyes of the Budha stare all the directions. This stupa is the place of worship of Tibetan Buddhists predominantly. We then drive to Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Bhaktapur is one of the oldest cities in Kathmandu valley. It is well known as Living Museum. Old brick paved enclave of old Royal palace, Nyathapola Temple, Datatriya temple exquisite artwork offers a picture of the grandeur of medieval Nepal. It is very famous for woodcarving and pottery products. Then after we have short visit to Changunarayan temple. This is one of the oldest Hindu temples in Kathmandu valley that exists in the valley dating back to the 4th century.

Days 29 : After breakfast you will have some free time until the time to leave the international airport for your final departure.
