Today is the day we fly out of Kathmandu to reach our destination of Lukla. It will take roughly 45 minutes to fly there. We will leave first thing in the morning and head towards the well-known settlement of Namche Bazaar. We’ll be ascending through verdant pine trees to reach the northern side of Benkar Valley. Next, we’ll make our way to the Sagarmatha National Park entrance by crossing the Dudh Koshi River and traveling via the picturesque towns of Chumoa and Monjo. We’ll get back on the road and cross a suspension bridge to get to Jorsale, where we may stop for a while. Once we reach the confluence of the Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi, we’ll set out on foot. After a long day of travel, we will spend the night at Namche Bazaar.

Today is the day that will define our entire trip because we will finally reach the summit of the Island Peak. By 2:00 AM, we must have departed from Base Camp. We’ll use our flashlights to make our way up the trail. We have to scale a rocky hillside that is pretty steep. Then, we’ll squeeze through a gap into a rocky gorge. We have to traverse a ridgeline before we can get to the glacier at the peak. In some spots, we’ll need to use ropes as a means of ascent. To go across crevasses, we’ll employ fixed rope, main rope, and ladders. Reaching the peak of Island Peak will reward you with a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding mountains. We’ll hang out at the peak for a while, then travel down to base camp for a victory party.
