Is Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek difficult?

The trip to Gokyo Lake is of moderate difficulty. Gokyo Renjo La Pass daily demands 6 hours of walking, excluding acclimatization days. Therefore, you must be in good physical condition and maintain considerable stamina. The rocky paths, challenging, steep, rough terrain, and high passes increase the difficulty of the journey.

Nevertheless, the Gokyo and Renjo La Pass Trek are more accessible than other high passes in this region. The routes do not present difficulties to hikers, making them ideal for beginners.

However, for a few travelers, the high altitude can be problematic, as they will ascend above 4,500 meters, which can cause altitude sickness or other medical concerns.

Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek Permit

To trek Gokyo and Renjo La, you will need two permits. Sagarmatha National Park Permits and Khumbu Rural Municipality Permits are required for entry. You will have to show them at different points along the way.

Note: When creating official documents, you will typically be required to submit a copy of your passport and a photo in passport size. Bring at least eight to ten passport-sized photographs. We will acquire the necessary travel permits and handle all legal documentation.

Accommodation on Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek

On all of our treks, we stay in tea houses that residents of the region run. Even though these teahouses are not fancy, they offer essential services and are a great way to learn about the local culture. They have a place to spend the night and cook meals.

The rooms will be simple, but the beds will be clean. There are private rooms and rooms where people share. During busy seasons, though, you have to share a room. The bathrooms are also shared, and in the Everest area, they usually have cold running water and toilets like those in the West.

Please be informed that we will provide you with accommodations only during the trek. While staying in Kathmandu, you should pay for your hotel yourself. There are numerous options for hotels available, and we want you to stay wherever you feel comfortable. We are always available if you need any suggestions on hotels.

Food on Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek

Along the way, tea houses offer essential Western foods and local foods like Dal Bhat, eggs, rice, vegetables, pasta, noodles, and so on. On the trek, you will get breakfast, lunch, and dinner. As you climb higher, you will have fewer options because the area is more remote. It is always a good idea to bring extra snacks like chocolate, energy bars, etc.

You can fill up your water bottles at tea houses. You can also fill your bottles with water from the tap or use purification pills. You can also get hot water in the tea houses, but you have to pay extra.

Please be aware that we will serve you three meals during the trek. The cost doesn’t include meals in Kathmandu. Because of the variety of food options available here, we let you explore breakfast, lunch, and dinner by yourself. We can also manage your food service in Kathmandu upon your special request. For that, please let us know while customizing your trip.

Best season to trek Gokyo Renjo La Pass

March through May and September through November offer the most favorable conditions for hiking the Gokyo Renjo La Pass. As this is the busiest time of year for people to go trekking in the Khumbu region, the path you will be taking will also be very congested. On the other hand, due to the difficulties of the Everest Renjo La Pass Trek, only some choose to do it.

Altitude Sickness & Acclimatization of Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek

During the Gokyo Renjo La Pass trek, altitude sickness is one of the most significant risks, so you must be additionally careful. A month before the walk, you should do some cardio exercises, go hiking, etc. Renjo La Pass, part of the Gokyo Lake trek, is 5,435 meters high. There is not much oxygen left at this height, so trekkers frequently get altitude sickness.

You can get rid of these symptoms by taking some medicines after talking to a trekking guide. You can also prevent these symptoms by getting enough water and food daily. As you go up to 5000 m, you have a high chance of getting altitude sickness. Taking care of your health as well as your body would help.

Some mild side effects of AMS are headaches, nausea, dizziness, difficulty breathing when exercising, trouble sleeping, loss of appetite, fast heart rate, and many more. If you have any signs of AMS, you should stop climbing at a lower altitude to feel better. If you ignore them and keep going on the trek anyway, you could get very sick, end up in a coma, or stop breathing.

Communication in Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek

The Gokyo Renjo La Pass trek itinerary encounters different landscapes. Even in this age of highly modern information and communication technologies (ICT), the landscapes are challenging for development in remote areas.

Although most of the villages along the Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek now have access to mobile phones and telephone services. Internet access is available in most tea shops, usually for a fee per hour.
