Trip Introduction
Overview of Kokhe Danda Trek: Highest point of Parbat district
Kokhe Danda Trek is the highest point in Parbat district, sitting at an altitude of 3,303 meters. This picturesque hill lies directly in front of the well-known viewpoint of Mohare Danda, and it offers some truly incredible panoramic views. Many trekkers even consider it a better viewpoint than the famous Poonhill.
You can take in sweeping views of several majestic mountain ranges, including Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Mansiri, and Langtang, during the Kokhe Danda Trek. On clear days, you’ll be able to see three of the world’s tallest mountains: Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Manaslu, each towering over 8,000 meters.
The views from Kokhe Danda and Mohare Danda are somewhat similar, but Kokhe Danda offers a particularly impressive angle on Dhaulagiri, making it stand out as a viewpoint.
Another great feature of Kokhe Danda is that it lies outside the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) region, meaning you don’t need any permits to visit this breathtaking spot.
Highlights: Kokhe Danda Trek – A Unique Himalayan Adventure
Kokhe Danda Trek is a hidden gem in Nepal’s Parbat district, next to the popular Mohare Danda. While it may not be as well-known, it offers an unforgettable experience, blending stunning Himalayan views with the quiet of less-crowded trails. Here are some of the standout features of this incredible trek.
Kokhe Danda Trek: The majesty of the Himalayas
Standing at the top of Kokhe Danda is nothing short of magical. You get an extraordinary view of three towering Himalayan peaks—Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Manaslu. Each one belongs to a different mountain range, and all are over 8,000 meters tall. From this single vantage point, the sight of these giants is awe-inspiring and humbling.
Rolling hills beyond the peaks
While the snow-capped peaks may steal the show, don’t miss the stunning layered hills that stretch south, east, and west. The hills seem to flow endlessly, creating a beautiful natural tapestry. This view adds a unique touch to the Kokhe Danda Trek experience.
A glimpse of Pokhara
If the weather is clear, you’ll also see Pokhara Valley and the serene Phewa Lake below. This added bonus connects you even more deeply to the landscape, giving you a broader perspective of the region.
A quiet escape off the beaten path
Unlike the bustling trails to popular spots like Poon Hill, Kokhe Danda Trek is far less crowded, allowing you to enjoy the natural beauty in peace. It’s an ideal choice for trekkers seeking solitude and an intimate experience with nature.
No trekking permits are needed.
One of the extras of Kokhe Danda Trek is that you don’t need a permit, which makes it easier and more affordable. However, getting a TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card for safety is wise, especially if you’re starting from the ACAP region, like Nayapul.
A cozy lodge at the summit
A newly opened lodge sits at the top of Kokhe Danda, 3,303 meters above sea level. This lodge offers comfortable accommodation and a dining area with breathtaking views of the Annapurna range. Imagine having a warm meal with a mountain backdrop—it is an experience you won’t forget.
Extend your trekking adventure
Kokhe Danda’s location makes it easy to extend your journey. You can combine this trek with others, like the Annapurna Base Camp, Muldai View, Khopra Trek, or Jomsom Trek. Mohare Community Lodge is also nearby, with over 60 rooms, while Ghorepani, just a couple of hours away, offers more than 600 rooms. You can also shorten your journey and head back to Pokhara by 4WD from Banthanti or Ulleri, or by car from Nayapul.
Flexible circuit trekking trail
The Kokhe Danda Trek can be done as a circuit, with options for a 4-day, 5-day, or 6-day hike. You can start from various points, including Baglung, Beni, Kusma, Tatopani, Ghandruk, Nayapul, and Patichaur.
Itinerary of Kokhe Danda Trek: Highest point of Parbat district
On the first day, you’ll take a drive from Pokhara to reach Kushma. From here, you have two options:
- Option 1: Begin your hike from a spot called Ambot, just before reaching Kushma. This route will take you on a hike through Durlung, leading to Haljure. The hike usually takes around 6 to 7 hours, and you’ll get to enjoy the serene landscapes along the way.
- Option 2: Alternatively, you can take a jeep from Kushma up to Banau. From Banau, it’s just a 45-minute hike to Haljure, which is a shorter and more relaxed option if you prefer.
Haljure offers spectacular panoramic views stretching from the Dhaulagiri range all the way to Langtang. It’s also a great spot to witness both sunrise and sunset, providing breathtaking sights to start and end the day.
On the second day, you will start on a shorter hike from Haljure to Sarga Camping and Homestay. This hike usually takes about 1.5 to 2 hours and goes through the lovely village of Lespar. Lespar is a charming, traditional village nestled at the base of Hampal Danda, surrounded by beautiful scenery that reflects the unique culture and natural beauty of the region.
On the third day, you’ll have two options for your hike:
- Option 1: Continue from Sarga and trek towards Kokhe Danda, passing through Jaljala and Mohare Danda. This route usually takes about 5 hours of hiking, offering varied landscapes and scenic views.
- Option 2: If you’re running short on time, you can opt to hike directly from Haljure to Kokhe Danda. This route is about a 7-hour hike and skips the stop at Sarga, allowing you to reach Kokhe Danda a bit quicker.
You will hike from Kokhe Danda to Jhillibarang, passing through Taaprang. You can descend from Taaprang to Ulleri in about 2 hours. However, it is important to note that entering Ulleri means entering the Annapurna Conservation Area (ACAP) region. As a result, you will need to pay the ACAP permit fees before exiting Birethanti.
On your final day, you will take a scenic route from Jhillibarang down to Nayapul via Bhuka Deurali. This hike typically takes around 4 to 5 hours. Interestingly, the trail from Jhillibarang to Nayapul runs parallel to the main route from Nayapul to Tikhedhunga but on the opposite side of the river. By choosing this route, you avoid entering the ACAP region, which means you will not have to pay any additional permit fees.
Nayapul is a small village, typically a starting point for trekking routes for the Annapurna region. Start your day early here for the best light and fewer crowds on the road. Drive through lush terraced hillsides, with views of small mountain villages nestled in the hills. After 1.5-2 hours of driving, we will reach Pokhara
