Itinerary
The first day of this Annapurna Ghorepani Poon Hill 6 days itinerary is an adventurous travel day to Pokhara. The journey time from Kathmandu to Pokhara can range from 6 to 7 hours, depending on traffic, road conditions, and the number of stops. After the rough ride to even roads with scenic green hills, we will finally reach Pokhara.
Our trekking starts when we drive 1.5 hour ride from Pokhara to Nayapul. The lower mountain slopes surrounding Nayapul are carved by layers of fields, making it a stunning picture of a rural Nepalese town.
You will pass through the village and green hill, cross the suspension bridge, and have your Permits and TIMs cards checked at the Bantanthanti checkpoint. We were ahead, following the Bhurungdi River through a peaceful farming village. After some more walking, we cross Lambdawi and then finally to Tikhedunga.
After early morning breakfast, we are ready for our next day to walk into the exciting trails. We will also share the path with the other trekker fellows, horses, and mules. After some stairs ascent, we will reach the Ulleri. Today most of the trail covers the stairs so it will be more complex than the previous walk.
From Banthanti, you will notice the change in landscapes. Thick forests, moss-covered bark, green ferns, and flowing waterfalls make the forest unforgettable. From Nagethanti the walk might be slow and steady, and the ascent is somehow vertical. You will also pass through the beautiful rhododendron forest, not in bloom; they will be magical in April or May. Finally, you will reach Ghorepani after 7 to 8 hours of walking.
Today is the day to have the best view in your entire trek if the weather is on our side. You need to walk 45 minutes to reach the Poon Hill summit. As you reach the top to see the beautiful sunrise view over the dazzling white peaks, it feels like the world is starting to wake with a pinky glow. You will be greeted with the most stunning sight imaginable, including the Dhaulagiri, Annapurna range, Fishtail, Nilgiri, and many more, illuminated by the sunrise.
After enjoying the view, we will return to the Ghorepani for breakfast. From there, we will then go back to the Tadapani. The day's destination will be Tadapani, along with some incredible mountains.
The Tadapani to Ghandruk will be a long walk but rewarding on many levels. You will see many great views of peaks, villages and green mountains. Within minutes the forest swallowed us again; the pathways were colorful, with brown leaves falling on the ground. Endless waterfalls and water streams made their way under prayer flags now and then.
After about 3.5 hours of walking, you will be delighted to see the Gandruk village below. The trek ends at the Gurung settlement of Ghandruk after passing through dense forest with breathtaking vistas. Colorful flowers swaying from the windows of traditional homes and lodges make this village wonderful. After some rest and lunch, we will travel back to Pokhara by Jeep.
Note: If you would like to extend your stay in Ghandruk, it's possible upon special request before the trip starts.
On this day, we return to Kathmandu via tourist bus, and it will take about 6-7 hours to reach Kathmandu. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Nepali countryside during the ride.
